Service Improvement Project Volunteering
Xuan Li, a fellow in gynecologic oncology is looking to work with interested student volunteers. They have a service/quality improvement project looking to assist low income cancer patients from the MHealth Fairview Cancer Center with obtaining emergency financial coverage. Looking for student volunteers who are interested in supporting patients in need of cancer care by helping them complete Medicaid and Emergency Medical Assistance applications.
The goal of the proposed quality improvement project is to provide patient-level support beyond the support already provided by our financial advisor team. This can help with delays in insurance coverage and cancer care - and to improve inadequate training for future healthcare providers in navigating the U.S. payor system.

GC-Pro job opportunity with patient exposure: #367055
My name is Elena and I'm a research coordinator at the U. I'm reaching out with information about my student job opening (#367055) that may be of interest to your group. Our study, GC-PRO, is a community participatory NHGRI-funded research study focused on understanding and improving health communication in genetic counseling settings for diverse patient populations. GC-PRO research assistants directly interact with patients and healthcare providers in Fairview clinical settings, which may be helpful for individuals interested in future healthcare and/or research careers. The posting is for a part-time (8-10 hrs/week) research assistant beginning in Summer 2025 with a commitment of 1+ year on the study. We strongly encourage individuals from a range of backgrounds to apply in order to strengthen the collective perspectives and skills of our research team. While the majority of our current research assistants are interested in pursuing a M.S. Genetic Counseling degree, students interested in any type of healthcare career are encouraged to apply as they see fit!
If you feel this opening would be of interest to your members, would you be able to share it accordingly? I'd be happy to answer additional questions about the posting as well. Contact: fishe912@umn.edu if interested or if you have questions -
American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative
The American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative (ALCSI) is a non-profit organization comprising of a team of over 70 doctors and students working to increase awareness of lung cancer and lung cancer screening in communities across the country. We have successfully worked with elected officials and representatives to receive proclamations from almost all of the 50 states. We have multiple university chapters across the nation, such as in Harvard University, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and Tufts University. Now, we plan to bring ALCSI right to UMinnesota.
